Passive House: Yes? No?

03/30/2012 - 8:30am - 10:00am

The key concept of Passive Houses is the overlapping of efficiency effects, where heat loads of buildings are lowered so dramatically that the added capital expenditure on walls and windows is partially returned by simplifying the mechanical systems needed for the building. This session examines how a building standard that is supposed to be a standard of excellence and performance can be organized and reformatted to respect the unique climate and realities of the U.S. without losing the international compatibility.

By attending this session, participants will

1. Understand the fundamentals and the global context of the Passive House
2. Learn about solutions for adopting the approach in the United States
3. Appreciate the barriers and opportunities facing super high performance building
